Community Anchor Development Programme

At the end of June BCT will launch its new Community Anchor Development Programme. Applications will close in December and awards will be made in January 2024 with funding running for four years from February 2024. The intention is to help organisations which are at the heart of their communities to become stronger and better placed to face future challenges.

The programme will offer flexible funding of up to £150,000 per organisation over four years, and the chance to take part in a learning programme with similar organisations. The number of organisations funded will depend on the performance of our endowment but is likely to be between six and ten nationwide.

The funding will allow organisations to develop their capacity in ways they identify; this could be income generation or developing a new asset, business planning or governance, communication and wider community engagement or a mix.

It will focus on areas that have been chosen by using a new index of community assets that BCT has been developing, merged with the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation. The new index brings in measurements of local community assets, connectivity and community engagement and activism.

The programme therefore targets areas which are experiencing both socio-economic deprivation and have limited community assets. Areas currently receiving funding from our Invest Local programme will not be eligible to apply.

We want to ensure that organisations have ample time to develop bids so there will be a five month window to complete them with support from BCT staff.
