Children and young people gifted handmade blankets from Cwtchy Quilts

Colleagues from our Integrated Children’s Community Nursing Service were delighted to receive more than 50 homemade blankets from local group Cwtchy Quilts.

Cwtchy Quilts was established in February 2022 following the success of Project Linus — a global mission established in 1995 to provide a sense of security, warmth and comfort to those in need through lovingly made blankets and quilts.

Based in the Vale of Glamorgan, Cwtchy Quilts has a team of skilled sewers who dedicate their time and skills to lovingly make washable blankets that are then gifted to children and young people.

The blankets donated to Cardiff and Vale University Health Board will be gifted to children and young people who are living with complex needs and disabilities and being cared for by the Integrated Children’s Community Nursing Service.

It’s hoped that the blankets will provide a sense of comfort and security. Since being established in the US in 1995 and the UK in 2000, Project Linus has seen millions of blankets and quilts delivered to children around the world.

Laura Hutchinson, Senior Nurse for Integrated Children's Community Nursing Service, said: “We know the children will love the quilts and we can't wait to gift them to their families. Thank you to Julia (whose son was cared for by the ICCNS) and Lisa for this special delivery — it made our day!”
