Celebrating our brilliant midwifery colleagues on International Day of the Midwife

On International Day of the Midwife, colleagues from across our Maternity Services came together to celebrate all of our midwives, midwifery students and support workers for all they do.

The annual Cardiff and Vale UHB Midwife Awards took place on 5th May and recognised colleagues across the Maternity Service for the excellent care they provide every single day. Our midwives support thousands of families every year and welcome hundreds of beautiful babies into the world every month.

This year, hundreds of parents, family members and fellow colleagues submitted nominations and shared their feedback — highlighting the enormous range of skills, expertise and enduring compassion.

Suzanne Rankin said: “It was brilliant to attend the event and celebrate the fantastic midwives, midwifery students and support workers who go above and beyond every day.

“I remember the midwives who were there for me when I was a new mother and helped me navigate the different challenges new parents face, so I know just how important the whole midwifery team is.

“The commitment of the midwifery team to deliver the very best care was evident as the awards, winners and runners-up progressed. I want to congratulate all of this year’s winners and nominees for their achievements and success.”

Jason Roberts said: “It was an absolute pleasure to be able to spend time celebrating success with the midwives at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

“It's been a challenging year, however, the many awards that were achieved are testament to the commitment and dedication of our midwifery teams."

Andy Jones added: “I have had the amazing privilege of working with our midwifery teams for the past two years and I have absolutely loved every moment.

“Our midwives, student midwives and midwifery support workers deliver fantastic person-centred care every day and the brilliant stories we heard really reinforce that.”

We would like to thank the organisations and companies for kindly donating lots of incredible prizes, including Lush, L’Occitane, Penylan Aesthetics, Suds & Sparkle, Jo Malone, Kate’s Nails and Beauty, the Royal College of Midwives and the All Wales Student Midwife Conference.
