Celebrating 25 Years of Dedication - GVS Honours Clive Curtis' Remarkable Career

Clive Curtis joined, what was Vale Council for Voluntary Services, on 1st November 1999 as the Western Vale Development Officer. Therefore, that means that Clive has celebrated 25 years with the County Voluntary Council.

After a few years as the Western Vale Development Officer, Clive applied for and was appointed to the Role of Partnership and Development Manager and later became Operational Manager for GVS and a key member of the Senior Management Team.

Clive’s colleagues from the GVS staff team have provided a long list of his many achievements and here are just a very few of them:

  • He has been the lead on governance support for organisations in the Vale leading to the formation of countless groups and charities

  • He has been responsible for managing GVS's training programme including playing a crucial role in upskilling the sector following the introduction of GDPR

  • He has helped shape strategic direction for GVS and its members in response to the Covid 19 lockdowns

  • He has driven and adeptly written GVS policies and procedures which more than serve their purpose and have been an exemplar for the local Third Sector organisations that we support

  • With the Management team he has been a part of creating an enabling working environment, which has allowed staff to develop into new roles and responsibilities when they’ve felt ready to step up which has aided staff retention and loyalty

  • His exceptional negotiating skills and ability to develop trust and excellent working relationships with partners and funders have benefitted both GVS and the wider Vale Third Sector and there are many more.

Clive has spent twenty five years of service dedicated to the Third Sector and Vale of Glamorgan communities.  Moreover, throughout his tenure Clive has helped an enormous number of Voluntary groups and has played a major part in the successes of our organisation.  So myself, the staff and Trustees will greatly miss his input, knowledge and humour and we all wish Clive a long, happy and healthy retirement*.

Rachel Connor, Chief Executive Officer, GVS
