Cardiff and Vale University Health Board reaccredited by The Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA)

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is delighted to be reaccredited by The Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA). The VCHA is a group of NHS providers, including acute, mental health, community, and ambulance trusts that have agreed to be exemplars of the best care and support for the Armed Forces' Community.

We have been making numerous strides to improve the care and support members of the community receive and have been awarded the Veteran Aware reaccreditation as a result of our efforts. Cardiff and Vale University Health Board are the first health board in Wales to go through the 3-year reaccreditation process.

The accreditation process was overseen by the VCHA, whose aim is to make sure that people from the Armed Forces Community are paid due regard and not disadvantaged in healthcare as a result of their military life. It does this by developing, sharing and driving the implementation of best practise, whilst at the same time raising standards for everyone in the NHS.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board are proud to have achieved this reaccreditation to demonstrate the on-going work and commitment to the Armed Forces Community.

Maisy Provan, Armed Forces Covenant and Veterans Healthcare Collaborative Lead at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board said, “I am delighted that the Health Board has achieved the VCHA reaccreditation and that we have been recognised for our on-going efforts to deliver high standards of care for our Armed Forces Community. There is always more work to be done but it's great to know that we are providing services and support that meet this high standard of accreditation.”

As part of our work to ensuring that veterans enjoy equitable access to the best possible healthcare, we have proudly signed the Armed Forces Covenant and have been actively asking each of our patients if they have ever served in the British Armed Forces to better identify opportunities for additional support.
