Be a Telephone or Postal Befriender

We are looking for volunteers aged 18+ to provide support and friendship to deaf people and those with hearing loss or tinnitus for our Befriending service. During the Covid-19 pandemic we are looking for volunteers to do this by telephone or letter.

As a Live Well with Hearing Loss Befriender, you will:

  • phone service users at a regular time each week or write letters on a regular basis

  • provide essential companionship for those who have problems leaving their home

  • make service users feel valued and known

One in six people in Wales is living with hearing loss.  The Live Well with Hearing Loss service supports people who are deaf or have hearing loss or tinnitus to access services, connect with their community and improve their knowledge around using devices.  Live Well with Hearing loss is a newly funded initiative funded by the Welsh Government and delivered by RNID in partnership with Centre of Sign-Sight-Sound.

Time commitment: A suggested time commitment is a regular time each week or to write letter on a regular basis.
Expenses reimbursed: Out of pocket expenses are reimbursed.
Training provided: Full training is provided.
Selection procedures: An informal discussion, application form completion, 2 references and a disclosure and barring (DBS) check (cost met by organisation).
