Be a Deputy Chair Volunteer
The Deputy Chairs stand in for the Chair when required and can help with decisions between meetings. Sometimes the Deputy Chairs can help with the organisational side of meetings and may also have responsibility for specific functions. The Deputy Chairs can also represent the charity at events and external meetings.
Tasks can include:
Acting as a figurehead of the organisation and setting its strategic direction
Representing the organisation publicly and speaking on its behalf
Taking an overview of the organisation and its work
Ensuring the governing document and policies are complied with
Authorising action to be taken between meetings of the full Governing Body
Ensuring the effective working of the Governing Body
Leading and managing Governing Body and general meetings
Preparing the agenda for meetings (usually with the secretary) and disseminating necessary advance information
Working with, supervising and supporting the Chief Executive Officer
Acting as a channel of communication between the trustees and staff
Signing legal documents
Supporting and encouraging other Governing Body members and staff
Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan
Acting as a signatory on cheques, contracts and applications for funds
To ensure a duty of care for all members is maintained
To have a working knowledge of Halliwick Association of Swimming Therapy and its role
To attend club activities regularly
To communicate with Trustees and members
Skills required for this role:
Good communicator
Competent IT skills
Good listening and problem-solving skills
Understanding of Governance in Charitable organisations
Time commitment: A suggested time commitment is around 4 hours per week, Monday – Friday, days and hours are negotiable with the organisation.
Expenses reimbursed: Travel expenses are reimbursed.
Training: Induction and training is provided.
Selection procedures: An informal discussion, application form completion, 2 references and a disclosure and barring check (cost met by organisation).
