Barry Amateur Swimming Club do very well in National Competition and invites new members

On Saturday 9th of July Barry ASC held the Cardiff Bay Sprint Meet in the International Swimming Pool in Cardiff Bay. Twenty One Clubs sent swimmers and Barry Swimmers also competed.

Five of the Clubs attending came from English Clubs, over the border. The Competition lasted all day and swimmers competed over one 50m length of the pool in each of the following strokes - Front Crawl, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly.

Gold, Silver and Bronze medals were awarded for each stroke in 8 age groups from 9 to 16. Each swimmer also gained points for a place in the top 10 for each stroke. Finally the top ten swimmers over all, ten girls and ten boys competed in a 200m Individual Medley to win a £10 prize. Also two cups are awarded in this Meet. The Rowland Jones cup is given to the best 9yr old swimmer overall – this was won by Alexander Pesevski, of Cardiff City Club, with 39 points. The Brian Hardwicke Cup calso is awarded to the best 12yr old swimmer overall – won by Freddy Brock, of RCT Swimming Club, with 37 points.

Our coaches congratulated all the Barry Swimmers who participated and said that they did Barry ASC very proud with their abilities.  There were medals, speeding tickets, personal bests and first experiences during the whole day - all too numerous to count. Above all, our members  were great ambassadors for the Club and the sport.  All swimmers enjoyed the Meet despite the very hot weather. We hope to hold this event once more next year though the format may vary a little and we look forward to many new swimmers joining the Club during the next few months.

BASC welcomes new swimmers from 7 years old who have achieved at least a Level 7 in Swimming Lessons.  Please contact Heulwen Cooper on 01446 733784 heulwen@ntlworld.com.  We are always glad also to have older volunteers to help with various areas of the Club too.  If you would like to see what our sessions involve, you would be very welcome to come to the Barry Leisure Centre after 7.15 pm on a Monday night to see how training sessions run.
