Art Central Gallery reopens with a specular exhibition by the Women’s Arts Association Wales

The Vale of Glamorgan Council is delighted to announce that the WOMEN'S ARTS ASSOCIATION WALES [WAAW] exhibition has opened on Monday 26 April! Visitors can arrange to book a visit to Art Central Gallery to see this exciting showcase of some ninety plus exhibits and a wide variety of artworks to see including sculpture, paintings, textiles, ceramics, photography and prints. The exhibition has been kept together throughout the COVID 19 pandemic and the art works of these amazingly talented artists can now be seen by the general public.

Originally created for International Women’s Day 2020 and is annually marked on the 8th March, the exhibition is profiling the artworks in celebration of established, upcoming and first-time women artists working in Wales. As a voluntary organisation, the history of the Women's Arts Association Wales began in the 1980’s. From its early days the organisation has promoted and continues to support women artists in Wales. It is a privilege to host such talent and to work with the volunteers who help to organise these exhibitions. This is a visually exciting exhibition and whatever your taste there is something here for everyone.

Councillor Kathryn McCaffer –the Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Arts and Culture said “The arts are for everyone and have proven to be extremely important for people’s health and wellbeing, connection and communication during the last year, The arts have provided a way of recording and making statements that resonate with people from all backgrounds and communities, helping them to counteract the effects of the pandemic”

This exhibition is truly international as we have women artists from South Africa, Cyprus, France and further afield and as always from across the Vale of Glamorgan and the wider Wales. The exhibition is hosting a mix of work by recognised professionals creating fantastic work alongside new and upcoming artists to hobbyists or those that create art as a therapeutic pass time.

A special feature of the exhibition is a recorded performance by artist Nicola Tucker in collaboration with Dancer and Artist Marega Palser who has created a performance work ‘You Never Remember My Name’.   Palsar, dances sensitively, by placing on the floor selected pocket items by Tucker, to represent the seven homeless women killed in 1888, in relation to the Ripper stories.  You can view the performance on the Art Central Galleries Facebook page.
