Advice to those who are Clinically Extremely Vulnerable - Sent on behalf of Welsh Government

The Chief Medical Officer for Wales is sending a letter to all those on the Shielding Patient List (SPL) which should arrive soon. The letter does not advise to follow any particular shielding measures but contains advice on how to stay safe as restrictions will be reduced over the next few weeks.

Whilst we have seen an increase in the numbers of cases in Wales, this has not resulted in the same rise in people becoming very sick and needing to go to hospital or dying as we saw in the first and second waves. This is largely due to the success of the vaccination programme. We would encourage all those on the SPL to get their vaccine if they have not done so already.

When making decisions we have remembered those who cannot have the vaccine or who may not have a good immune response. At alert level 0 there will still be a number of measures in place to reduce the spread of the virus. Please consult the written statement and letter for more detail, the links to both are below. Please feel free to share these links.
