A round up of GP practice vaccination activity - 14.04.21

Each week, we focus on the work that GP practices across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan are achieving as part of our Covid-19 mass vaccination programme with a round-up update.  We’ve pulled some of the key milestones achieved by the practices.

On 12th April 2021, Western Vale Family Practice opened their Local Vaccination Centre in the Western Vale of Glamorgan to support the delivery of the COVID-19 vaccine programme. Three of the GP practices are working in partnership to offer residents the Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccine at the CF61 Centre in Llantwit Major. The practice has advised their patients that they will receive their invitations by post with a letter to inform them of their allocated appointment. Patients aged between 40 to 49 will be vaccinated on Saturday 24th April 2021 for the first dose clinic. The same cohort will then receive their second dose on Saturday 10th July 2021. For those aged 30 to 39, the first dose clinic will be on Sunday 25th April 2021 followed by the second dose clinic which will take place on Sunday 11th July 2021. Whitchurch Road General Practice have released an update to inform their patients that they have now conducting second doses of the COVID-19 vaccines. Those expecting the second dose are advised not to call the surgery as they will be contacted soon to book their appointment.

West Quay Medical Centre have announced that they are now starting to second dose clinics for their patients that have already received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Patients expected to attend this clinic will contacted by the surgery to remind them of their appointments. These patients are also reminded to refer to their vaccination card for the next appointment.

Patients that have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at Birchgrove Surgery will be due for their second dose soon. Therefore, the practice will be sending reminder texts to these patients to confirm their next vaccination appointment. Second doses of the vaccinations will start from those that received their first dose on 21st and 22nd January 2021.

Whitchurch Road Surgery have started to conduct the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. They have asked their patients expecting the second dose not to contact the surgery as they will be in touch with these patients in due course to arrange their vaccination appointment.

Bishops Road Medical Centre are now in the process of administering the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to their patients over 65 years old, starting with those over the age of 80. The practice is urging their patients that are over 65 years old that have not yet received their first dose to contact them in order to book an appointment at one of their clinics. The practice has opened a “on the day” call list for occasions where spare vaccines become available on the day of their vaccination clinics. Court Road Surgery are delighted to confirm that appointments for their patients expecting to receive the second dose of the COVID-19 on week commencing 19th April 2021, will go ahead as planned. If these patients can no longer attend their scheduled appointment, they are encouraged to inform the practice as soon as possible. The entrance will be via the lane behind the surgery for those attending the second dose clinics. Patients attending the second dose clinics are reminded to bring their vaccination card that they would have received after the first dose.

Second dose clinics for the COVID-19 vaccine have commenced at West Quay Medical Centre. Patients who have received their first dose at the surgery will be contacted to remind them of their second vaccine appointments. They are asked to refer to their vaccination card for their next appointment.

Ely Bridge Surgery has thanked all their patients that attended their COVID-19 vaccination clinic on 10th April 2021. They also expressed thanks to their staff who volunteered to administer the vaccines and marshalled the clinic. The practice announced that the next clinic for the second dose of the COVID-19 will be held on Saturday 24th April 2021. Those expected to attend this clinic will receive their appointment time by post in due course.
