Volunteer for RNLI - Providing Safety Advice

Volunteer for the RNLI and you'll be part of a lifesaving tradition that has been going strong since 1824

Be a water safety volunteer

Help make sure everyone gets to go home safely through education and water safety advice.

Every year our lifeboat crews and lifeguards save the lives of hundreds of people and rescue thousands more. The RNLI Water Safety Team save lives by giving advice that helps people enjoy the water safely, and stops them from getting into trouble in the first place.

Around 150 people die by accident in UK and Irish waters each year. Half of those who drown never intended to enter the water.

Through our water safety initiatives, we strive to reduce fatalities and incidents in, on and by the water.

Barry Dock Lifeboat Water Safety Adviser Volunteer 18+  The Water Safety Adviser is part of a team of 6 -7 persons contributing towards the delivery of the Barry Dock Lifeboat Water Safety Lifesaving Plans.

This is achieved by going into the community and offering RNLI-prepared water safety advice and working with local partners (groups/clubs) to offer preventative water safety messages and literature to targeted water users.

An example would be to engage with stand-up paddle boarders and open water swimmers in Jackson's Bay, Barry Island. This role can be performed with a Buddie, or alone if confident to do so. It can be very rewarding, the people are so appreciative of the advice and the scenery is stunning.

Our water safety volunteers are crucial in helping to achieve this aim by providing free education and water safety advice to all who visit the coast, from school groups to walkers, commercial fishermen to college student.
